MediaLaws is pleased to share the Call for Abstracts for the 3rd International Conference EHDS 2026, entitled “Secondary use of data and the subject rights”. The conference is organised by the Faculty of Law and Administration of the University of Warsaw (UW), the Institute of Law Studies of the Polish Academy of Sciences (INP PAN), the President of the Polish Data Protection Authority (UODO), and the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Warsaw.
The conference invites contributions that critically examine the legal, institutional, and practical implications of the secondary use of health data under the EHDS. Submissions are welcome that address both EU-level and national dimensions, including comparative perspectives. In particular, contributions may focus on regulatory roles and coordination between competent authorities; on the relationship between secondary use of health data and the protection of individuals’ rights; on special categories of data subjects, including children, dependent persons, and military personnel; as well as on professional secrecy and the legal bases for access to health data. Further relevant topics include the role of consent within the EHDS governance model, issues of data quality, interoperability and accountability in cross-border infrastructures, the interaction between the EHDS and the Open Data Directive (2019/1024), the governance of research infrastructures and public–private partnerships, compliance obligations for health institutions and industry stakeholders, the balance between centralisation and decentralisation, and questions concerning liability allocation and oversight in secondary-use processes.
The deadline for abstract submission is 15 January 2026. Abstracts should be between 150 and 300 words nd should be sent by email to konferencja.ehds@wpia.uw.edu.pl.
