On 26 March 2026, the European Parliament’s plenary session in Brussels approved the amendments drafted by the IMCO and LIBE committees to the Digital Omnibus on AI proposal.

The adopted text represents the European Parliament’s final position ahead of negotiations with the Council of the EU and is the result of months of discussions within the committees.

The original proposal, introduced by the European Commission as part of the so-called Omnibus package, focused on amendments to the AI Act, particularly concerning its practical implementation.

Through this plenary vote, MEPs have proposed several significant changes to the Omnibus on AI, including a ban on ‘nudifier apps’ and the postponement of certain rules on high-risk AI systems, with the introduction of fixed dates to ensure predictability and legal certainty.

The Council of the EU also approved its own negotiating mandate on this matter on 13 March 2026.

Now the negotiations between the Parliament and the Council can begin.
