MediaLaws is pleased to share a new Call for Papers for the ESIL-supported conference “New Technologies and International Legal Accountability”, which will take place on 22–23 October 2026 at the University of Perugia.
The conference addresses one of the most pressing challenges in contemporary international law: how to ensure accountability for malicious cyber and AI-enabled operations, whether in peacetime, hybrid contexts, or armed conflict.
Against the backdrop of growing dependence on digital technologies, the initiative aims to assess the adequacy of existing legal frameworks and explore diplomatic, adjudicative, and operational mechanisms to respond to emerging risks.
Contributions are invited on a range of topics, including:
- Regulation of cyber and AI-enabled operations under international law
- Dispute settlement mechanisms for inter-State conflicts
- Individual criminal responsibility for cyber or AI-related conduct
- The role of EU law in ensuring accountability
The conference encourages innovative and interdisciplinary submissions from scholars of all backgrounds, with selected papers potentially included in a future edited volume.
Deadline for abstracts: 15 April 2026 (max. 500 words).
More information on the call, submission requirements, and conference details are available in the Call for Papers.
