MediaLaws is pleased to share the Call for Papers for the special collection “Emerging Data and Policy Challenges to Digital Rights“, to be published in the open-access journal Data & Policy (Cambridge University Press).

The special issue invites submissions that examine the effectiveness of existing digital rights frameworks, assess whether the definition of such rights should be expanded or rethought, and critically discuss the measures to be undertaken to ensure that digital rights are understood, protected and effectively enforceable in the context of the growing prevalence of data-driven systems.

The Call is open to contributions on any topic relating to digital rights; however, submissions that analyse the digital rights landscape, the level of citizens’ awareness of their digital rights, ethical and theoretical perspectives on digital rights, the role of data intermediaries and data justice, empirical assessments of the effectiveness of digital rights, and technological threats to rights in data-driven systems are particularly encouraged.

The submission deadline is Friday, 30 January 2026; submissions received earlier may be published on a rolling basis. Contributions may take the form of research articles, commentaries, translational papers or data papers.
